NIH ELSI Funded Conferences,
Workshops & Seminars

The conference category includes conferences, seminars, workshops, public forums, and teleconferences. Grants are included if the original abstract submitted committed to presenting the results of a project to a conference as one of the goals. The total cost for each project is included although in some cases the actual cost of the conference portion was smaller than the overall cost of the project. This distorts the actual cost of conferences, but does represent a broad cost for conferences because of the preparation that goes into a presentation. The cost figures are still incomplete but a sense of the funding still comes through. For example, some years are much better funded that others, especially the earlier ones.
